3-Day Trip in Madeira

Day 1 : Funchal and Monte Exploration

We spent our first day exploring the capital, Funchal, and its elevated neighbor, Monte.

Evening: To get back down, we chose to take the cable car again, though we considered the traditional Toboggan ride. Later, we had dinner in Funchal, making sure to try the local dish of Espetada (beef skewers).

Morning: We started with a leisurely walk and coffee in the Zona Velha (Old Town). We specifically wandered down Rua de Santa Maria and admired the unique artwork on the “Painted Doors.”

Midday: We visited the bustling Mercado dos Lavradores market. We explored the stalls, saw the fresh fish, and sampled a variety of exotic fruits that we had never tried before.

Afternoon: We took the Telefรฉrico (Cable Car) from central Funchal up to Monte. The ride offered spectacular panoramic views over the city and the bay.

Late Afternoon: In Monte, we visited the Jardim Botรขnico da Madeira (Botanical Garden). We spent time exploring the thousands of plant species and enjoying the sweeping views back down toward Funchal.

Day 2 : West Coast Road Trip

Our second day was dedicated to a scenic road trip along the dramatic Western Coast of Madeira.

1st Stop: Cรขmara de Lobos: We visited this picturesque fishing village, famous for its colorful boats. We took photos and stopped to try the local drink, Poncha.

2nd Stop: Cabo Girรฃo: This stop offered an adrenaline rush! We walked out onto the Skywalk, the glass-floored platform situated 580 meters above the ocean, providing truly breathtaking views.

3rd Stop: Ribeira Brava: We made a brief stop in this pleasant seaside town to stretch our legs and grab a coffee.

4th Stop: Porto Moniz: This was a highlight! We spent time swimming and relaxing in the famous Piscinas Naturais (Natural Swimming Pools), which are pools formed by volcanic lava.

Return Trip: On the way back to Funchal, we enjoyed the stunning scenery of the north coast, marveling at the cliffs and sea views.

Day 3 : Panoramic Views by Tuk-Tuk

Our final day involved a more relaxed, unique tour to take in the best viewpoints surrounding the city.

Evening: We enjoyed a special farewell dinner at a restaurant with a sea view. One of the best restaurants in the World we have ever visited.Villa Cipriani.

Morning Activity: We hired a Tuk-Tuk in Funchal for a private panoramic tour lasting about two hours.

Panoramic Views: The Tuk-Tuk driver took us to several fantastic viewpoints. Our main stop was the Miradouro do Pico dos Barcelos, which offered incredible 360ยฐ views of Funchal, the harbor, and the mountains. We also stopped at the Miradouro das Neves for a different perspective.

Midday: After the tour, we had lunch back in the city center. We spent the remainder of the afternoon with free timeโ€”some of us chose to visit the Madeira Wine Museum while others did some souvenir shopping.
